A PAIR of Michelin star winning chefs and restaurateurs are preparing to bring their acclaimed food to an historic Essex pub.

Brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin, who own a string of high-end London venues, including Galvin at Windows, will open the Galvin Green Man in Howe Street, just outside Chelmsford.

The Green Man is one of Essex's oldest pubs, dating back to 1314, and has undergone a £3million renovation to restore it to its former glory.

The revamp has also involved the addition of a glass-roofed dining room which will seat 90 people.

Essex-born brothers Chris and Jeff claim the move "marks a return home" and have pledged to bring their own unique style to the traditional British pub menu.

Signature dishes from the main dining room menu will include: Colchester crab mayonnaise, watercress and rye bread; Rosanna onion and smoked bacon flat bread; Roast Dingley Dell pork, bakers style potatoes; Dorset scallops, garlic and parsley butter; and game pie with braised red cabbage.

The bar will serve a selection of craft ales with a strong emphasis on local craft brewers such as Adnams Southwold, Ridleys and a calendar of guest ales.

The revamped pub is set to open next month.

Its opening hours will be 11am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 10.30pm on Sunday.

The dining room, meanwhile, will open from 11.30am until 2.30pm and 6pm until 10.30pm Monday to Saturday, and 11.30pm until 6pm on Sunday.
