STAFF at Tendring Council have been given some top tips on safer driving.

Around 90 employees who are required to drive a vehicle as part of their jobs attended a road safety presentation given by Essex County Council’s Safer Essex Roads Partnership.

Staff who attended included gardeners, grave diggers, tree surgeons, dog wardens, IT staff, engineers, toilet cleaners, parking attendants and members of the Council’s Careline team.

They were also joined by managers and office staff.

The presentation concentrated on the ‘fatal four’ which are speeding, using a mobile phone while driving, drinking and the use of drugs - which can also include the use of prescribed drugs whilst driving - and not wearing a seat belt.

A number of safer driving tips were also given out such as keeping a safe distance and not breaking the two second rule, more haste less speed allowing sufficient time for journeys, looking ahead and anticipating the behaviour of other drivers around you.

Michael Talbot, Tendring Council's cabinet member for environment, said that he was pleased that the staff took part in this important initiative.

“It is always worth reminding anyone who spends a large part of their day behind the wheel of the dangers that can pose and how they can drive more safely.”
