A GOVERNMENT inspector has rejected plans to build five new homes in Great Bromley.

The outline scheme for land next to Chapel House in Ardleigh Road was turned down by Tendring Council last year.

The applicant appealed against the decision in a bid to get it overturned but inspector Graham Chamberlain came down on the side of the council.

The site is outside the settlement development boundary and in the countryside where development is normally restricted.

Mr Chamberlain looked into the location which he felt had a degree of isolation and lacked easy access to services and facilities.

He also felt the appeal site is part of a larger field with an undeveloped and rural character which contributes positively to the visual amenity of the surrounding area.

“The appeal scheme would result in a harmful urbanisation of the site with its existing open and undeveloped character when viewed from the B1029 and Mill Lane which will be replaced with housing,” he added.

“The scheme would have adverse impacts that would significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits when assessed against the policies as a whole.

“I therefore conclude that the proposal would not be sustainable development and the appeal should fail.”
