MOTORISTS are being warned the A12 is set to be shut for large parts of this weekend.

Engineers from Highways England will be lifting out part of the Ewell Bridge over the road between junctions 23 and 24 near Kelvedon.

It will then be transported along the busy road for repairs to be completed nearby.

It will be shut between junction 25 at Marks Tey and junction 24 at Kelvedon north overnight on Friday on the southbound track between 8pm and 6am and then from 10pm on Saturday until 4am on Monday.

A diversion will be in place from Marks Tey along the A120, A130 and A131 and in reverse coming in the opposite direction.

Project sponsor Kelly Milburn said: “We’d like to remind drivers that this closure will be in place throughout the weekend continuously from when it closed at 10pm on Saturday until it re-opens at 4am on Monday.

“There will be clearly signed diversion routes in place to minimise disruption but we would continue to urge drivers to plan their journeys and be aware of ongoing road works that may affect them.”
