A NEW plan to help Tendring Council keep on top of its property portfolio has been welcomed.

The high level Asset Management Plan sets out the background for how the authority will make the best possible use of its 4,200 sites.

These include 3,200 council homes, 50 commercial premises, 300 open spaces and around 90 leisure-related assets.

A total of 470 garages, more than 40 public toilets and approximately 50 car parks is also on the council's books.

Now, the aim is for the council to routinely challenge its entire property holding and look for more efficient solutions to meet the ongoing challenge of reducing resources.

The new plan, devised by Andy White, head of property services, and his team, looks to maximise the value of those assets in consultation with its communities.

The document was recommended for approval by the full council at recent cabinet meeting.
