A NEW-style vintage and collectables market will be held this month.

The second niche market in Manningtree, on May 27, will follow a launch event which saw hundreds of visitors enjoying a browse of vintage items last month.

The Manningtree Business Chamber hosted the vintage market with the aim of boosting visitor numbers to the town and offer residents an ideal spot to enjoy a shop.

It was run by ten volunteers from the business chamber who live in Manningtree.

For the first market, shops reported fives times the increase in business and the town centre came alive as people flocked to see the fantastic array of vintage and collectable gems.

Mel Winning, a business chamber member, said: “We had such positive feedback from the day.

“Lots of people compared it to a lovely French flea market with great creative stalls and a fun relaxed atmosphere.

“We are looking forward now to the rest of the summer with the next market being held on the last Saturday of every month.”

Heidi Jones, Scoffers Bakery owner, said: “The whole town was buzzing and there was a huge increase in foot flow throughout the streets.

“I think this market is exactly what Manningtree needs to attract more people to the town, which can also help struggling businesses.

“Later in the year, in August, we are planning to coincide the market with the Manningtree regatta to entice for people into the town.”

The market will be up and running until September 30 and the next one will be held on Saturday, May 27.
