TWO travellers are set to appear in court after clashing with a 73-year-old woman as they tried to enter a Colchester beauty spot.

Sam Loveridge and Jamie Crawt are both charged with assaulting pensioner Sarah Freeman as well as a public order offence.

The alleged incident took place at the entrance to Hilly Fields, off Lexden Road at 10.45am on Thursday.

Loveridge, 29, of Chertsey Road, Woking, Surrey, and Crawt, 24, of Beaconsfield Road, West Sussex have been released on bail to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 4.

A clash is alleged to have taken place after Mrs Freeman attempted to stop a group of travellers from driving onto the historic landmark while she was out walking with her two dogs.

The stand off is said to have lasted about 30 minutes and ended when the police arrived at the scene.
