HOME-MADE short films will be showcased at a special screening as part of this summer’s arts festival.
Budding Spielbergs were called on to create films under ten minutes long for a special project for the Harwich Festival of the Arts.
The filmmakers, who could be of any age, were given free-reign to base their footage on any subject and film it using anything from a mobile phone to a drone.
Michael Offord, from the festival, said: “This year, the Harwich Festival has a new strand for visual artists.
“In the spring, we sent out a call for submissions of films up to ten minutes long made by independent filmmakers and videographers.
“We hoped to see creative ways of making films using of some of the many gadgets and digital equipment now widely available - we were not disappointed.
“Films range from those shot on smartphones to others made by film and TV production students from the Colchester Institute.
“All the films have been subject to a lengthy classification process by Tendring Council, to whom the project owes many thanks for their willingness to help put our programme together.
“Further thanks go to the Essex Community Foundation, the Electric Palace Cinema and to John Theobald – project leader.”
The films will be shown on Saturday June 24 (PG), Sunday, June 25, (18) and Saturday, July 1, (18), Sunday, July 2, (PG) - all shows are at noon at the Electric Palace Cinema in King’s Quay Street.
Entrance to the screenings is free of charge.
