THIS latest offering from Brantham Amateur Theatrical Society was one of the funniest and best performed ever staged in the Suffolk Village hall.

Bunkered by Lynn Brittney, and here directed by Angie Heath, who also deserves a share of the praise, had audiences chuckling almost from start to finish.

It was a 90-minute farce, although for those who have served in any of the forces, would recognise it as not too far from the truth.

The action revolved around the apparently forgotten naval staff still manning a Cold War bunker, not unalike the one a few miles away in Mistley some 20 years after it was decommissioned.

The four main character, three naval personnel and an odd job man, Richard Heath, Val Eldridge, Pauline Stockdale and Keith Raby, were on stage throughout and played their roles to perfection.

The latter brought things to a head by repairing the ancient equipment and unknowingly sending out signals to the surprised naval headquarters, setting in train an hilarious sequence of events.

What a pity it is to have to wait eight months to the group’s next production.

Cast: Richard Heath, Keith Raby, Val Eldridge, Pauline Stockdale, Mark Hinson, Sophie Mercer, Gordon Prior, Lesley Mercer, Lauren Mercer and Barry Eldridge.
