A FUNDRAISING duo have completed four charity challenges to raise cash for Diabetes UK.

Jamie Lynch, 41 and Trevor Lewis, 34, who both live in Dovercourt, signed up to take on four physical feats after seeing the daily impact diabetes can have on people living with condition.

Together they have completed a half marathon, a 60 mile bike ride, a sprint triathlon and a six-hour football match.

Jamie said: “We were both shocked to see the daily impact the condition has.

"I work with a man who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes nine years ago.

“Trev's goddaughter, who is five years old was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes a year ago, she has to inject insulin four times a day and this is why we chose to do four events.

“Raising awareness and understanding of the condition is very important to us.

"Hopefully the money we raise will help improve care and ultimately find a cure.”

Jamie and Trev finished their final challenge this month – a six hour five-a-side charity football match in Little Oakley, followed by a charity disco and raffle.

“The football challenge was tough, but we really enjoyed it and along with the raffle and disco we raised about £3000 to date,” Jamie added.

“We want to thank everyone who supported and helped us.”

The pair started with the Colchester Half Marathon in March, then they completed the 60-mile route of the Tour de Tendring in May and the Harwich Sprint triathlon in June.

Teresa Strange, Diabetes UK Eastern fundraiser, said: “Jamie and Trevor’s challenge is inspiring and we really are grateful to them for the funds they are raising to support our work.

“Diabetes is serious, people living with it never get a day off and face serious complications if they do not manage their condition well.

“We support people living diabetes, work hard to improve care, invest in research to ultimately find a cure and work with NHS and others to try and stem the catastrophic rise in Type 2 diabetes.”
