FLYTIPPERS have dumped a mound of rubbish near a playing field used by children.

Black bin bags of waste, large planks of wood, broken plastic and other items were found dumped in Wix Road, Ramsey, near the memorial playing field.

Robert Passmore, who is a Ramsey parish councillor, said he found the rubbish pile and reported it to Tendring Council.

He said: “It happens every now and again here and it I put the picture of the fly-tipping on Facebook with the hope it will put people off from doing it again.

“Quite often it will be people doing house clearing for other people and they pick up the rubbish, take the money and dump it wherever they like.”

Residents spoke out on Facebook about the fly-tipping by branding it “awful” and “disgusting”.

He said another reason people may have flytipped the rubbish there is because Essex County Council introduced a rule in October that vans, pick-ups and other commercial vehicles - are not allowed to use Dovercourt Recycling Centre.

He said: “Getting rid of rubbish is becoming more difficult as some vehicles cannot be taken into the dump but there is no excuse for fly tipping.”

Suzanne Howe, who is also a Ramsey parish councillor, said: “I am appalled as always at any fly tipping.

“Whilst I understand people’s frustrations at the restrictions now imposed at the local recycling centre it is still no excuse to flytip, however, we are seeing more and more of it happening.

“This now drains Tendring Council’s resources to remove it.”

Nigel Brown, Tendring Council’s communications manager, said the matter was reported at 7pm on Sunday and put through to the council’s contractors first thing on Monday.

He added he expected the council workers would remove the fly-tipping either today or tomorrow at the latest.
