A public meeting turned into a fracas after two people were told to leave.

The meeting, organised by Kelvedon Parish Council, was arranged for September 6 to discuss an outline application for 250 homes on land north of London Road.

A member of the public, who asked to remain anonymous, claimed developers were not allowed to speak and one person even threatened to sue another for assault.

He said: “Someone tried to evict two people from the meeting, one was threatening to sue the other for assault.

“About 60 people were present and they would not let the developer talk.

“The chairman let the meeting run out of control and two people were told to leave.

“The council said they could not speak and it was really quite heated.

“There was no representative from the district council there, people were annoyed about that, they should have been there.

“It really was awkward.”

If approved the plans, which have gained 34 objection comments, would include a school site and health centre.

But councillor Craig Martin, chairman of Kelevdon Parish Council, would not comment on the claims.

He said: “It was a meeting the parish council called to hear residents’ comments on an outline application for land behind London Road.

“The parish council needs to formally make a response and it was to get the views of residents.

“As you'd expect there were a number of comments made, you would not expect anything less.

“We will take those into account next week at the parish council meeting.”
