A MAN has been charged with multiple offences after he was arrested during a police road side operation in Harwich.

Nitesh Patel, 42, of Main Road, Harwich, has been charged with affray, criminal damage, actual bodily harm and breaching a non-molestation order.

Mr Patel appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court today and was remanded in custody to appear at court at a date next month.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Officers asked a man to provide a roadside breath test during a roads policing operation in Main Road, at around 7.30am yesterday.

"Police then received information that the man had assaulted a couple and damaged items inside an address close by at 7.10am."

The man was arrested and later charged.

During Friday's roads policing operation, officers also caught 19 people failing to wear seat belts, 14 driving at excess speed, five people using their mobile phone whilst driving and four others driving without insurance.
