GIRLGUIDES from Clacton will be helping Father Christmas to spread festive cheer next month.

Members of the 1st Clacton Guides and 1st Clacton and Holland Enigma Senior Section have organised a number of street collections in Great Clacton, Bockings Elm, Holland-on-Sea and Little Clacton.

The collections will raise funds for the units, including residential opportunities and trips next year.

Last year, the fundraising venture raised £2,000, which was used to pay for the girls to attend an exclusive Girlguiding members-only concert at Wembley Arena.

The Guides took over the annual Christmas collection from Clacton Lions, who generously donated their old float, in 2015.

Guide Leader Debbie Davey said: “The girls love having the opportunity to get out into the community.

“Even in bitterly cold winds and sleet, they always have smiles on their faces because they can see how much seeing Santa right outside their house means to local children.”

The fundraising collections, which start each day at 6.30pm, will begin on Monday, December 4, and will run until December 14.
