A PINT-SIZED protester is campaigning against a major housing development near her home in Lawford.

Alanna Harty, seven, is encouraging more villagers to object to plans to build 110 homes off Grange Road.

Alanna, who lives in Grange Road, has offered to deliver leaflets against the plans and she has even written a letter of objection to Tendring Council.

The Dedham Primary School pupil said she regularly cycles five miles to school and two miles to Manningtree with her dad Dan.

When Alanna’s dad told her Grange Road might be too dangerous to cycle along if the development goes ahead, she wanted to object.

There have already been 211 objections made against the planning application since it was submitted last month, and Alanna said she hopes for more.

She said she loves to cycle and if the homes were built then there would be more traffic along Grange Road.

She said: “Sometimes I cycle with my daddy to school and last week I cycled with daddy to Manningtree.

“But if the houses are built, there would be too many cars coming out of the field and I think it will be really busy.

“You would have to cross all of the roads and it would be really busy to get to the playground.”

Alanna’s mum Samantha said her other daughter Martha, aged five, wants to learn to cycle too and understands how building 110 homes could have an impact on the family’s cycling routes.

Nigel Brown, Tendring Council’s communications manager, said there is no age limit on people commenting on planning applications.

“Alanna’s letter will be considered along with any other representations we receive concerning the plans for 110 homes in Grange Road, Lawford,” he added.

Alanna has written to the local campaign group called ‘Lawford - NO to Grange Road Development’ offering to deliver leaflets on her bike around the area.

A Gladman Developments spokesman said: “We recognise and understand that new developments may generate pressure on existing services and community facilities, such as schools and GPs surgeries.

“Our proposals always respond to these concerns by providing appropriate mitigation, often by providing appropriate financial contributions to the council to allow them to expand existing services.”
