CHEERLEADERS are calling on all ra, ra, residents to vote for them to get a supermarket cash boost.

Harmony Elite Cheerleading Academy, whose cheerleaders train at the Park Pavilion, in Harwich, could receive a grant up of to £4,000 from the Tesco Bags of Help Initiative.

The supermarket has teamed up with Groundwork, an environmental organisation, for the initiative which sees grants of up to £4,000, up to £2,000 and £1,000 raised from carrier bag sales awarded to community projects.

Three groups from every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive a grant and shoppers are being invited to vote for what group should get the top grant.

Harmony Elite Cheerleading Academy, which has been shortlisted, wants to purchase new equipment and mats to help cheerleaders progress their skills safely.

Groundwork’s national chief executive Graham Duxbury, said: “We’ve been thrilled to see the diversity of projects that have applied for funding, ranging from outdoor classrooms, sports facilities, community gardens, play areas and everything in between."

Customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop.

Tesco’s Bags of Help project has already delivered more than £40 million in funding to 9,700 projects up and down the UK.
