A CARRIAGEWAY is blocked after a crash involving five cars.

The A120 is blocked westbound at Great Bromley.

Queues are back to Horsley Cross.

There are also northbound queues on the A133 from the Weeley roundabout to the A120.

The crash happened at about 8am.

UPDATE 9.34AM: The vehicles are awaiting recovery, but it could be some time before help arrives due to congestion

UPDATE 10.AM: We have just heard back from the ambulance service. 

They said: "We were called at 7.48am  to reports of a road traffic incident involving five cars on the Colchester Bound, A120 Great Bromley.

"We sent an ambulance crew and treated a man in his 30s.  He was checked over at the scene and taken to Colchester General Hospital with neck and back injuries. He was conscious and breathing.

"His current condition is unknown."

UPDATE 10.50AM: Still awaiting recovery of vehicles involved.  Traffic on A120 coping well. Still a little slow both ways on the A133 near the junction with the A120.

UPDATE 11.30AM: The incident has now been cleared. 

UPDATE 3.30PM: We have just heard back from police. 

They said: "A heavy goods vehicle and four further cars including a Nissan, Skoda and two Fords were involved in the collision, which happened on the Colchester-bound carriageway of the A120 near Great Bromley. One man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing, but if you were a witness to this incident, officers are asking for you to come forward. You can call 101 and ask for Pc Jonathan Ward at Stanway Roads Policing Unit, quoting reference number 159 of 06/04.
