A RIVERSIDE art gallery is showcasing a range of seasonal drawings of trees by the artist Ali Morgan.

The North House Galley, in Manningtree, will be showing 40 tree drawings, ten from each season, from Saturday until May 19.

From late winter 2017 Morgan has sketched continuously for an entire year in pencil and charcoal chronicling the seasonal changes, with colour only appearing in autumn pieces.

Morgan had her first solo show at North House Gallery in 2008 while she was still a student, and impressed people with the quality and originality of her painting.

After graduation, inspired by the sea, she moved to Cornwall for a few years then back to the East Anglian coast, where she continued in the same tradition of immaculate paintings of distressed boats.

Last year she moved to a landlocked area of Suffolk and found herself surrounded by trees.

She was encouraged by a local drawing group to venture into the woods called Golden Wood, a community wood near Lawshall.

Morgan said: “As I developed an interest and became more excited, hours were spent observing and recording particular trees in my sketch book, ultimately concluded on large sheets of handmade paper in my studio.

“The drawing process is intense - sometimes gentle, sometimes vigorous, transforming information into line, shadow, texture and surface.”

Morgan has exhibited in 25 shows in Essex, Hampshire and Cornwall.
