TELEVISION coverage of the the trailblazing Corbeau Seats rally in Tendring will promote the district to new audiences, claim tourism bosses.

More than 6,000 thrillseekers descended on Tendring for the motor rally on April 22, which was the first to take place using new legislation allowing closed road motorsport in England.

The event, which was organised by Chelmsford Motor Club, will be screened on Motorsport TV next week.

Tendring Council leisure and tourism boss Mick Skeels said a trailer for the programme showcases the Tendring countryside.

“The fact Tendring’s scenic countryside and coastline provides the backdrop to this first-of-its-kind event means our tourism offering is reaching a whole new audience,” said Mr Skeels, who was interviewed by the production crew on the day of the rally.

“Just as the Tour of Britain and the Women’s Tour exposed cycling fans to what our district has to offer, so will this programme to motor sport fans.

“We hope then that the scenery will advertise itself and encourage people to come and visit us, boosting our tourist economy in the process.”

Mr Skeels said Tendring Council supported the event for the positive impact it was felt it would have on the district’s economy.

He said that while a formal debrief has not yet taken place, the initial feedback has all been positive.

Now details for the TV coverage of the rally have been revealed by Motorsport TV.

The programme will be broadcast at 9pm on Friday, May 11 on Motorsport TV, which can be found on Sky channel 447, Virgin Media channel 545, or Freesat channel 253.
