HUNDREDS of cyclists are gearing up to take part in one of Tendring’s biggest annual events.

The Tour de Tendring, which will have been running for 25 years this year, is taking place around the district on Sunday, May 13.

The annual event, run by Bike Events and Tendring Council, attracts riders from all around the area and also pulls in cyclists from further afield.

There are three distances to suit all levels, starting with the family six-mile ride, going up to 20 miles and then a 60-miler which takes in a large part of the very best of the district.

The start time for the two longer distances is between 8.30am and 9.30am, while those heading off on the six miles will depart between 9.30am and 10.30am.

Food and drink stalls and a bouncy castle will be at the start and finish line at Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles, in Low Road.

Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles and Harwich Sports Centre will also be staging open days to coincide with the event, with a number of free activities.

Mick Skeels, Tendring Council’s cabinet member for leisure and tourism, said he hoped to see more than 1,000 cyclists saddling up on May 13.

“It is remarkable to realise just how well-established and popular this event is, and it has been going from strength to strength for 25 years now,” he added.

“The ride is great fun for all ages and a wonderful family day out, as well as an ideal way for clubs and groups to get together to raise funds for their chosen charities.”
