FUNDRAISERS visited a train station in fancy dress to raise money for charity.

Kate Williams and Jessica Mellor, from Acorn Villages - a residential complex for adults with learning disabilities - visited Manningtree Railway Station in fancy dress.

The pair donned their outfits in a bid to raise cash to help fund activities for the residents.

Kate Williams, commercial development and marketing co-ordinator for Acorn Villages, said: “We had a lot of laughs and smiles and the staff and commuters were wonderful.

“We made £253 for Acorn, thanks to the generosity of passengers and staff.

"Our target is £800 so that’s a huge chunk to help us on our way.”

“The staff at Manningtree Station not only made us feel welcome, but they also gave us personal donations and offered us tea!

Taran Best, Greater Anglia’s area customer service manager, commented: “The fantastic mural in the underpass at Manningtree station is the work of the Acorn group members, so we were very happy to support the station collection which will help to fund some brilliant activities for them in return.

“We are always happy to support charities which really help the local community and are close to the hearts of staff and customers.”

The money raised will help to provide activities for the group such as horse riding, swimming and arts and crafts.

Kate and Jessica are also set to take on the Great East Swim – a one mile non-stop swim at Alton Water reservoir.
