A WORRIED mum says she was outraged when a group of woman celebrating a hen party wore T-shirts with swear words printed on them in front of youngsters at a packed family restaurant.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said her children were trying to enjoy a meal at the Brewers Fayre Mayflower, in Parkeston, when a group of women on a hen do came in with lewd language printed on the back of their T-shirts.

One of her children then innocently asked what the rude word meant.

She said: “How can people think it’s acceptable to walk into a family pub like this?”

The incident happened on Friday at about 7pm when the mum’s children were taken out for a meal at the pub, in Parkeston Road, by their grandmother and aunt.

The mum, from Wix, said: “My children are 11 and eight years old and they were sitting down having a meal and a hen party group came in wearing a seriously offensive word on their T-shirts.

“My daughter asked her grandmother, who is 74, what the word meant.

“The women sat down and ordered their meal and the staff gave them tape and paper to cover the word printed on their T-shirts.

“I feel quite strongly about this as I just want to keep it as a nice town.

“It’s just a sad situation of affairs that this is what it’s come to and people think it is acceptable to do this.”

A Brewers Fayre Mayflower spokesman said staff told the group to cover the offensive language with clothing.

He said: “We had a booking and we knew they were having a hen do but we did not know they would come in with that language on their backs.

“One manager went over to them and said the language was not appropriate for a family pub.

“They were understanding and most of them covered it up.”
