A COUNCIL has unanimously agreed to call for the A120 to Harwich to be dualled "as a matter of urgency".

A motion was put forward in May for Tendring Council to write to Essex County Council asking the authority to ensure Government funding for work.

Harwich councillor Ivan Henderson said he wanted Tendring Council to push forward the matter, which he said needed funding to be included in the second round of road investment, Road Investment Strategy Two, which runs from 2020-2025.

Tendring Council leader Neil Stock and Mr Henderson have now worked together on the wording of a letter, which was supported unanimously at Tuesday night's full council meeting.

It said: "This council recognises that the A120 from Hare Green to Harwich is wholly inadequate and should be upgraded to a dual carriageway as a matter of urgency.

"This council specifically requests Essex County Council ensures the necessary Government funding is secured through the RIS2 and the A120 is made fit for purpose and upgraded to dual-carriageway status as soon as possible."
