PETROLHEADS are getting geared up for a 60-mile ride as the Harwich Motorcycle Run and Family Fun Day returns to town on Sunday.

Thousands of bikers will descend on Harwich once again, with 3,000 people in total expected to arrive following the charity ride from Laindon in aid of the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

Jen Wall, volunteer and events lead for the bike run, said: “We are really looking forward to this year’s event.

“The Motorcycle Run and Family Fun Day is one of our biggest fundraising events and really well supported by the thousands of bikers who ride from Ford Dunton and the spectators who come to Harwich Green to welcome them.

“The Family Fun Day at Harwich Green will again provide a day of unbeatable entertainment beside the seaside.

“As well as the chance to cheer on the bikers as they cross the finish line, visitors can enjoy live music, a kids’ zone and trade stands.

“Entry to the family fun day is free but we are asking for a £5 donation to help us put on the day as well as to keep your local air ambulance operational.

“We can’t fly without you.”

Tickets for riders are £10 for a single rider and £15 for a rider with pillion passenger.

This year riders can also buy raffle tickets for £5 when they enter to be in with the chance of winning a first prize of a branded biker suite worth £1,000 sponsored by Cannon BMW motorcycles, a helmet fitting by Colchester Kawasaki or a Carol Nash insurance voucher worth £50.
