HUNDREDS of paintings are being put on display to the public at an annual exhibition.

Dovercourt Art Club is celebrating its 51st exhibition at The Waterfront, in Lower Marine Parade, Dovercourt.

The event is taking place tomorrow and Sunday, September 16.

The exhibition will be open from 10am until 5pm on both days.

Rodney Byrd, chairman of Dovercourt Art Club, said a lot of organisation has gone into this year’s exhibition.

He said: “We have 138 paintings on show and 36 artists.

“There will be a variety of styles and mediums on display and it’s our 51st exhibition.

“Two of our members are original members of the club.”

The exhibition will see landscape paintings from far and wide created in oil, acrylic, and water colour paint.

There will also be etchings, pastel works, collage and mixed media pictures on display.

Some of the paintings are inspired by the local area and are of the High Light House, in Harwich, the River Stour and yachts in Manningtree.

Other paintings are of sunflowers, nature, wildlife and buildings from further afield.

Rodney added: “I took over as chairman of the club this year.

“We have got professional artists as well as amateur artists displaying their work.

“We will be hanging up the pictures on Friday morning.

“Once the exhibition is open, people will be able to vote for their favourite painting.

“There will be a raffle too on the Sunday.”

Entry is free and all of the paintings are for sale this year.
