HARWICH'S historic attractions will be opening to the public as part of National Heritage Weekend.

The Harwich Society is once again opening all of its visitors attractions for free between 10am and 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. **Sept 15 and 16**

This means visitors will be able to look around Redoubt Fort, the Radar Tower, the High Lighthouse, The Lifeboat Museum, the Maritime Museum, the Ha’Penny Pier Visitor Centre, and the Wheel Crane.

And for the first time Foresters - the Harwich Society's 15th century headquarters will also be opening.

Foresters, in Church Street, is a timber framed and plastered house which was built in 1450.

Harwich Society chairman Colin Farnell said: "This is a very special weekend for the teams of Harwich Society volunteers who are very proud of our town’s history and heritage and love the opportunity to show why Harwich deserves to be known as Historic Harwich."

Walking tours led by members of the Harwich Society’ guide panel will also leave the Ha’Penny Pier Visitor Centre at 2pm on both days.

Mr Farnell added: "The Harwich Society is very lucky to have so many dedicated volunteers who make it possible to offer so much to see and do on National Heritage Weekend.

"They are a credit to the Society and to our town and I’m sure that their efforts will make National Heritage Weekend a great success in Historic Harwich."
