YOUNG Volunteers have given a care home garden a makeover.

Longfield Care Home in Fambridge Close, Maldon had young people from The National Citizen Service come and revamp their garden in four days.

The nine volunteers painted benches, cleaned the summer house, and developed a sensory garden for the residents.

They hand stitched sensory blankets which they donated to residents.

A spokesman said: “One of our residents counted all 20 buttons on the blanket, an amazing result as this lady seldom verbalises.

“The level of their commitment and skills was commendable and highly appreciated by residents and staff.

“They also had time to do arts and crafts together and play games.

“The best outcome of all was the project was very much enjoyed by the volunteers and loved by our residents.

“They brought light and laughter to the home.”

The National Citizen Service brings together 16 and 17 year olds from diverse backgrounds, providing them with strong skills for work and life.
