BUDDING entrepreneurs can apply to take over a town centre shop for free.
Tendring Council has put aside £22,000 to allow up to six would-be businesses to set up shop in Dovercourt for eight weeks rent free.
It is hoped the scheme will help local people who would otherwise be unable to set up a business because of cost.
The first business could be up and running in the shop by the end of July.
Rachel Fryer, Tendring Council’s town centre co-ordinator, said: “This would be ideal for a number of traders such as those making their own jewellery, ceramics, crafting wood, selling collectables on ebay, clothing or CD’s, or someone with a totally new idea.
“It may be that those chosen could already be working from home but are now ready to take the next step forward.”
Businesses will only have to pay a small weekly contribution for utility bills.
A Dovercourt shop has already been leased and the money for the scheme has come from the government.
Anyone interested in applying should contact Mrs Fryer now on 01255 686149 or email rfryer@tendringdc.gov.uk
