Radio enthusiasts transmit from Harwich lighthouse

LIGHTHOUSE and radio enthusiasts were treated to two days of international transmitting from lighthouses and a lightship.

The High Lighthouse, the Low Lighthouse and LV18 Lightship in Harwich welcomed amateur radio enthusiasts to make global broadcasts as part of the International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend.

Enthusiasts could set up transmitters to send a receive signals from around the world.

Tony O’Neill, curator of the LV 18 lightship, said: “It was a fantastic and highly successful weekend.

“People could communicate with the global radio network and log messages with different people who they contacted from anywhere in the world,” he said.
