PLACES are still up for grabs for a university fun day aimed to encourage school children to progress to higher education.

Tendring Council and Essex University have teamed up to try and boost the low numbers of young people striving for professional careers by gaining university qualifications.

The day for 10 to 12-year-olds, on October 6, will involve three interactive sessions to engage young people in academic subjects and their local area.

The focus will be on local history, psychology and science in action during sessions between 10am and 1pm.

The free event is open to young people attending Harwich and Dovercourt High School, Manningtree High School, Tendring Technology College and their feeder primary schools.

There will also be arts and crafts sessions for any younger brothers and sisters who attend.

Parents will get the chance to talk to representatives from the University of Essex and to get questions answered while their children are taking part in the sessions at the fun day.

The young people will also have the chance to meet and work with real scientists and historians.
