X FACTOR hopefuls District 3 had a lucky escape from elimination when they were put into the bottom two of last week’s competition.
The trio, which includes Tendring lad Greg West, 18, went against retro singer Melanie Masson from the Over 28s category in Sunday night’s sing-off after receiving the lowest public votes.
But judges couldn’t decide who to save and Nicole Scherzinger sent the decision to deadlock – where the act with the fewest votes is sent home.
Greg and his band mates Micky Parsons and Dan Ferrari-Lane were saved.
The band were praised on Saturday night for their “faultless” harmonies during their rendition of All 4 One – I Swear.
Greg, who is from Clacton and went to school in Dovercourt and Manningtree, was shown raising concerns about the song choice in footage before the show.
