A SECOND Government minister has visited Jaywick in just over a week.

Former Tory party leader Iain Duncan Smith visited Jaywick as part of the Conservatives’ by-election campaign on Wednesday.

The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions canvassed voters with Giles Watling in Marlowe Road on Wednesday.

It followed a visit to Jaywick by Justice Secretary Chris Grayling last week.

After speaking to voters, Mr Smith said the Government was cutting the “burden of taxation” to encourage business and create jobs to help areas like Jaywick.

“There are 3,500 more people in work in this constituency since the General Election,” he said.

“We have come out of the worst recession in my lifetime and arguably worse than the recession in the 1930s. Changes do not happen overnight, but we have seen record numbers of people going back to work.”

He also welcomed Tendring Council’s £10million plans to regenerate Jaywick, which include building council homes that will encourage more private development.

Dan Casey, Labour ward councillor, said he welcomed interest from the ministers, but called on the Government to live up to election promises.
