A PLUCKY woman watched her long locks fall to the floor as she had her head shaved for charity.

Beth Murray, of Spring Road, St Osyth, volunteered to have her hair chopped off to boost Macmillan Cancer Support.

She took up the challenge after the charity helped a close pal and friend of her dad as they battled cancer.

For the past three months Beth, 23, has collected more than £3,700 in sponsorship.

Her big night came on Saturday at the Kings Arms pub in St Osyth.

It featured live music, a raffle and auction for a football signed by Rod Stewart before the head shave main event.

Drummer Mick Sparrow had his head shaved during a performance on stage, before Beth took the spotlight.

“I think the entire village was there,” she said.

“The pub was packed full and the support was overwhelming. It was a lengthy process and very emotional at points, but I was encouraged by everyone the whole way through.

“I want to say a big thank you to everyone.

It was an unforgettable night.”

More than £800 was raised on the night taking Beth’s grand total to more than £4,560. She also sent her hair to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for young cancer sufferers.
