UKIP’S economic spokesman has hit out at the Government for “failing the people of Jaywick”.

Patrick O’Flynn visited Jaywick on Saturday to campaign with Ron Reeves, the founder of Justice for Jaywick and a member of the Jaywick Action Group.

Mr O’Flynn criticised the Government for failing to lift Jaywick despite the ward being officially named the most deprived in the country in 2011.

He said: “Walking around Jaywick, two dominant issues kept cropping up – the lack of affordable housing and a severe lack of opportunities for local youngsters. It’s clear there’s no sign of George Osborne’s economic recovery in Jaywick.”

He added: “UKIP believes that such areas should not just be left behind.”

Conservative-run Tendring Council’s has announced plans to spend up to £10million on a scheme to build council homes to kick-start regeneration.

Council leader Mick Page said the council has stepped in as successive Governments have failed to take action.

But Mr Reeves said: “From appalling roads to rubbish on streets, people in Jaywick have had enough and deserve better.”
