CALLOUS crooks stripped huge sheets of lead from a church roof in Kirby.

Thieves climbed onto the roof of St Michael’s Church in The Street, Kirby-le-Soken, ripping away lead worth more than £2,000.

The lead, measuring 16 metres by two metres, was then loaded into the back of a van and driven away.

It happened between 6pm on Saturday September 13 and 9am the following morning.

The lead theft has been linked with a raid on a nearby pub.

A brand new combination boiler was hauled away from The Red Lion pub, also in The Street.

Police say the boiler was taken on the same night or the following night from the church lead theft.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
