WHEN budding photographer David Smith treated wife Denise to a romantic wedding anniversary on a pig farm he never dreamed he’d end up with the snap of his life.

The Kirby Cross couple were celebrating their 22nd anniversary in Norfolk last year when they went for a wander around the pens of cute prize porkers.

David whipped out his trusty camera and bagged a shot he later called Piglets on Parade.

Now it’s shot to stardom on the front of BBC show Countryfile’s calendar.

“Countryfile do a calendar every year for Children in Need,” said David, 47.

“They choose 12 finalists and then there was a public vote on the programme to decide what went on the front cover and my picture won.

“This year there were 32,000 entries, but I think this one just made people smile.”

The calendar sold more than 300,000 copies last year and raised £1.4million.

Countryfile presenter John Craven took David and Denise back to the pig farm before revealing the winner.

“It’s a fantastic thing to happen,” said bricklayer David, who also scopped £1,000 worth of camera equipment.

He only took up photography three years ago when he joined the North Essex Photographic Workshop in Clacton.

The 2015 BBC Countryfile Calendar is on sale now, priced £9.50.
