A MAJOR spike in break-ins has sparked extra police patrols as officers bid to clamp down on burglaries.

Homes, businesses and even a church have been targeted in a string of raids over the past two months around Frinton, Walton and Kirby.

There has been a safe heist in Walton and a lead theft from a church in Kirby Cross, along with at least ten other house burglaries or attempted break-ins across the area.

Concerned police officers say there has been a “troubling” rise in recent weeks.

Extra patrols have been drafted into the area to clamp down on the burglary trend, including plain clothes officers who are patrolling the streets.

They are also scouring CCTV footage to catch the offenders.

Sgt Pete Gerard urged residents to be vigilant and make sure they do not become easy targets.

He added: “I would like to ask residents to be alert to suspicious activity in the area of Frinton’s Avenues and the Edenside estate.

“The crimes have on occasions occurred during the day and windows have been broken to enable suspects to gain entry.

“Please be diligent when securing your own premises before going out and keep an eye out for neighbours.“
