A CARNIVAL wants a charity or good cause to benefit from its annual parade.

The Clacton Carnival committee is looking a charity or organisation from the town that needs funds in the region of £3,000 for a project that will directly benefit people locally.

Last year, a cheque for £2,100 was given to the Clacton branch of the RNLI, which needed to upgrade the clothing that the crew wear when they get called out.

This year’s Clacton Carnival Week runs from August 8 to 14, and opens with the procession, which this year has the theme of heroes and villains.

For more details of how to be considered for the main charity, write to Nicola Freeman, Carnival Press Officer, 2 Albany Gardens, Clacton, CO15 6HW, go to clacton carnival.org or call 01255 426262. All applications need to be submitted by February 20.

  • A quiz night will be held on February 27 at St James’ Church Hall, Clacton, to raise funds for dresses for this year’s carnival queen and princesses.
