PARISH councillors are celebrating after securing hundreds of pounds to fund new football goalposts.
Thorpe Parish Council has been successful in applying for £700 in grant cash – £500 from a Tendring pensioners’ group and £200 from the Kirby Fete Association –for the new equipment at the village’s Lady Nelson playing field.
The field is used for matches by Frinton & Walton Youth Football Club, and parish councillors said the new goalposts would ensure it remained one of the best pitches in the district.
Chairman Daniel Land said: “It has taken two years to get this far and the remaining money will come direct from the council.
“I have been working hard on this as the current goalposts are old and in need of replacement.”
