CLUB members were bowled over after receiving hundreds of pounds in grant cash for new equipment.
Jaywick Leisure Club, which holds activities for elderly residents at Golf Green Hall, was desperate to replace its ragged bowls mat.
Members were shocked to discover it would set them back more than £600.
So they were overjoyed to receive the full £648 they needed from the Acorn Fund and Southend Sports Charitable Fund.
Club treasurer Sylvia Searle, 82, said: “The whole idea of our club is to get elderly people out of their homes and give them the chance to get on their feet and taking part in activities.
“Our mat was very ragged and we asked for funding to help us get a new one. We never expected to get the full amount and we are absolutely delighted.
“It will make a huge difference to everyone at our club.”
