LIFEBOAT bosses have been “blown away” by big-hearted youngsters who have been filling the crew’s trademark yellow wellies with coins to raise cash.

Primary schools are taking part in the RNLI’s Fill Your Boots campaign.

They were each challenged to try to fill the wellies with as much loose change as possible in a week.

Walton and Frinton lifeboat crew members have also been selling special limited edition yellowwellie badges.

Spokesman Stewart Oxley said: “We have been blown away by the support we have received locally to this new fundraising event.

“We have completely sold out of our stock of 600 pin badges and have been amazed by the enthusiasm and support we have received from the primary schools.

“We visited around 1,200 children to tell them more about their local lifeboats and the work they do, and are now collecting up the wellies with the loose change in to start counting up their efforts.”

Walton, Frinton, Hamford, Kirby, Rolph and Tendring primary schools are taking part in the campaign.

A lucky caretaker from the school that raises the most money will be presented with a new pair of RNLI wellies on board the lifeboat.
