RAMPAGING vandals have left seafront toilets in Frinton smashed to pieces.

Yobs left a trail of destruction as they caused major damage to the lower promenade toilet blocks at The Leas and opposite Cambridge Road.

Bricks were broken away from nearby walls and used to smash every sink, urinal and bowl in the two toilet blocks.

Toilet roll holders, hand driers and soap dispensers were also torn from walls and left in pieces.

Tendring Council maintains the facilities and now faces a £5,000 bill to repair the extensive damage.

Frinton councillor Nick Turner said he was disgusted to see the extent of the vandalism.

“This is pure wanton damage for the sake of it and those responsible have gained absolutely nothing from their actions,” he said.

“What they have done is left the public purse to pick up the bill for the repairs and also left residents and visitors without these seafront facilities over a busy period in the summer.”

The attacks happened between 5pm and 10pm on June 16.

Both toilet blocks were due to be closed for at least a week while repairs were carried out and replacement facilities installed.

Mr Turner appealed for anyone with information or who saw anyone acting suspiciously to contact the council or call police on 101.
