CARE home residents proved age is just a number as they unleashed their competitive edge in an action-packed sports day.
The annual sports day showdown between residents at four care homes took place last week.
Competitors from Winsford House, Gairloch and Cavendish, in Clacton, and Elm Tree care home, in Frinton, went head-to-head in a series of contests.
They took part in races and relays, launched beanbags and completed a football shoot-out.
The top performers in each event earned points for their care home, as staff and family members cheeredfrom the sidelines.
Winsford House deputy manager Carol Clover said: “We had a lot of events going on and the residents absolutely love it.
“They love being outside and taking part.
“People think we’re mad, but every year the residents show that just because you’re old, it doesn’t mean you can’t do anything.
“It gets very competitive between the care homes.”
This year, Cavendish care home triumphed by a single point to take home the cup.
The event, held at Eastcliff Playing Fields in Hollandon-Sea, was capped with a barbecue to bring the rivals together.
Mrs Clover added: “This is our fourth year doing it and the event is going from strength to strength.
“More residents want to join in every year and it is an amazing atmosphere.”
