TRAVELLERS who set up camp on Holland Marshes have left the site.

The group, which had two caravans, moved off Tuesday afternoon following a visit from Essex Police and Tendring Council’s Civil Enforcement Officers.

The police and officers attended to issue a penalty charge notice for breach of the no waiting and parking restriction that is in place along that stretch of road.

The travellers had originally turned up on the land over the weekend.

Paul Honeywood, cabinet member for housing, said that he was pleased the issue had been resolved promptly.

Last week a group of travellers who appeared at the same location on Holland Marshes left after having been served with a Direction to Leave notice and went within 24 hours.

A similar notice had the same effect on Travellers who camped at Brook Country Park last week.

“It is a case of taking the appropriate action in each instance and following the correct procedures to get the quickest possible result,” said Mr Honeywood.

“We thank the police for their help on this occasion and together we have achieved the best outcome.”

Tendring Council had received complaints from residents about the encampment on Holland Marshes.
