ANGRY councillors have demanded an equal say for their residents on Tendring’s new Local Plan.

The new-look plan is being developed by Tendring Council to guide development across the district over the coming years – including the construction of thousands of new homes.

It is now set to be made available for residents to have their say through a consultation and special sessions have been set up in Clacton, Weeley and Harwich.

Every resident will also receive a letter and can submit their views by post or online.

But Frinton and Walton town councillors have slammed the decision not to hold a consultation in their area.

Walton representative Delyth Miles said: “As a town and district councillor, I have to say I think we deserve and should be entitled to our own consultation event.

“We should have the same crack of the whip as everyone else, especially as there are several plots of land being considered for major developments in our area.

“This is a serious issue and our residents deserve to have the same say.”

Frinton councillor Terry Allen said: “We make up 15-20 per cent of the whole of Tendring here.

“We provide a big share of the money going into the Tendring and Essex council coffers and shouldn’t be ignored.

“There are eight councillors from this area on the district council and they should be pushing for us to get the same as everyone else.” On previous occasions, the town council has organised its own consultation event to support residents.

Councillors say they will look into doing the same again this time.

Tendring Council communications boss Nigel Brown said no areas were being excluded from the consultation – and everyone would get a chance to have their say.

“This will include letters being sent to every household in the district, access and facility to comment via the council website, as well as information to be provided to all town and parish councils,” he added.

“The provision of consultation at specific venues is just part of the wider consultation process and there will be two further rounds of consultation after this one as the local plan is put together.”

Letters about the local plan consultation are currently being delivered to every home in Tendring by hand.

They will all be delivered by August 28.
