A CHARITY worker is preparing to test his legs to the limit again by taking on a 100-mile trek from Wembley Stadium to Frinton.

Dave Garlick, 53, completed the mammoth route in reverse last year, helping to raise more than £25,000 to build a community centre in Ecuador.

He grew up in Kirby le Soken before launching charity Hand in Hand to support people living in poverty overseas.

The charity branched out from Brazil to Ecuador, where Dave now lives for 11months a year – occasionally returning to Kirby to raise cash and awareness for the cause.

Last year, Dave braved the blisters to trek from Frinton to Wembley in three days.

Sponsorship cash poured in and was used to build the community centre in El Tingo to boost youngsters in the area.

Dave is now set to repeat the daunting feat to put the finishing touches to the building.

He said: “I have mixed feelings this time around.

“I know it is do-able because I’ve already managed it once, but I remember the blisters and the pain. It was very tough.

“But it is an incredible cause.

The centre has been running since January and it has already made a big difference to people.

“There are a few finishing touches which need completing.

We need to fund a plasterboard ceiling, windows, doors and paint, as well as chairs and tables, sound equipment and a screen.

Hopefully, the money we raise from this walk will cover everything and we can put the finishing touches to a facility which will help countless people.”

Dave was given the idea for the challenge last year by the 2014 World Cup and will complete the hike in his bright yellow Ecuador football shirt.

He is set to hit the road on September 8. People can sponsor his mammoth challenge at campaign.justgiv ing.com/charity/hihand/youwill neverwalkalone
