CAMPAIGNERS trying to ditch the word Jaywick from their postal addresses fear the bid is in danger of falling apart.
Residents on the Tudor estate want to break away from Jaywick after it suffered negative publicity in a string of controversial TV shows about people on benefits.
They feared being lumped together with the deprived Brooklands and Grasslands estates was pulling down house prices.
Residents appealed to the Royal Mail to officially change the estate’s address and the Royal Mail wrote to all 1,006 households asking if there were any objections.
Delighted campaigners thought they had won when there were just 20 objections – less than two per cent.
But the bid has now stalled because Tendring Council refused to back the change.
