A WOMAN convicted of manslaughter only to be released early has been jailed again after lying to the police.

Elisha Francois, 25, was jailed for six years in September 2012 for her part in the manslaughter of Oliver Smith-Daye in Clacton.

Mr Smith-Daye died, aged 29, after he was attacked in the street in the early hours of New Year’s Day, 2012.

In February this year, Francois, who had been released after serving half of the sentence, lied to police about why her boyfriend used her phone to call a taxi just minutes after allegedly stabbing a man to death.

Francois told police she was stopped in the street by a man who asked to borrow her phone.

In fact, she had previously lent the phone to alleged drug gang “henchman” Allcie Holder.

Police believe Holder was one of three men who plunged a knife through the heart of Nico Ramsay, 19, in Napier Avenue, Southend, that afternoon.

Following her sentencing to 32 months in prison for perverting the course of justice at Basildon Crown Court on Friday, Mr Smith-Daye’s family said Francois needed to be educated in prison and her sentence should have been harsher.

As a family, they said: “Miss Francois has a pre-disposition towards violent and serious crime.

“It is disappointing the justice system is unable to fulfil its role when dealing with imprisonment.

“Miss Francois has not been deterred from future crime by previous sentences or her three years in prison, nor has she been rehabilitated or suitably punished.

“We would urge the government to carry out a thorough review of the sentencing guidelines to minimise the likelihood of repeat offences.”
