A SPECTACULAR spread was laid on in the street for day centre residents to enjoy a patriotic celebration.

Staff at Millicents Day Centre in Clacton organised the street party for users to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday milestone.

About 70 people sat down for a traditional fish and chip dinner on long tables set up in the road at Ramsden Close.

The tables were decked out with Union Jack sheets, as well as mini flags and bunting.

Sarah Barnes, co-ordinator at Millicents Day Centre, said: “It was really great and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.

“A lot of people were putting on celebrations for the Queen’s birthday and we thought it would be a lovely way to let users get into the spirit and be patriotic.

“It was one huge party with users from Canters Meadow day centre coming in to join us too.

“The spread was great with a fish and chip dinner and jelly and ice cream, and we had a singer who performed some golden oldies.

“It brings back a lot of old memories for the users and they had a really great time celebrating the occasion.”
