A BOOK of condolence will be set up in Tendring in memory of an MP who was shot and stabbed on the street.

MP Jo Cox was killed on Thursday in her constituency.

Tendring Council flew its Union Flag at half mast from its town hall office today as a mark of respect.

Now a book of condolence will be opened up for residents to pen their thoughts.

It will be available in the reception area of Clacton town hall from 10am-4pm on Monday.

Council leader Neil Stock said: “Our thoughts got out to her family, friends and constituents at this very difficult time.

“This was a member of the Communities and Local Government Committee, who was fulfilling her constituency role as part of the democratic process which is so important to this country and its residents.

“To be struck down in this way carrying out her public service is almost beyond belief – but it did happen.”

Ivan Henderson, Leader of the Labour Group on Tendring Council, said that Mrs Cox, the MP for Batley and Spen in Yorkshire will be sorely missed – not only by her own party but all MPs.

“Jo was a committed campaigner and Labour politician through and through who cared deeply about people and followed her convictions,” he added.

“It is hard to take in what has happened and we have lost a rising star in our party.”

Mr Henderson said that he hoped many Tendring residents would take the time to put their thoughts into the book.
